Adult Lessons at Brighton Swimming School
Brighton Swimming School offer 1:1, 2:1 and group adult swimming lessons every day of the week excluding weekends.
Adult Lessons Prices 1:1's = £165.99 for 6 weeks 2:1's = £118.99 for 6 weeks Group lessons = £92.99 for 6 weeks (Tuesday evenings only) Each session has a supervisor with whom you can discuss any aspect of your swimming lessons. All staff are DBS checked and Swim England and STA qualified, with RLSS lifeguards ensuring safety at the pool. All equipment, such as floats, are provided by the Swim School. Adult Group Criteria's
Adult Beginners
Moving from a non-swimmer / aquaphobe to being confident moving around in the water.
(widths, shallow water)
Adult Advanced Beginner
Having completed adult beginner the individual is moving confidently in the water. May still be using a float or noodle but the teacher is not required to assist them across, moving to starting to swim independently of any floatation, and being ready to move to lengths.
(widths, deeper water)
Adult Intermediate
Having completed adult advanced beginner, the individual will be confident swimming without aids and ready to start increasing the distance and skill level. This is the individuals first start into length swimming and understanding lane etiquette.
Adult advanced (pre pool2pier)
Adult Beginners
Moving from a non-swimmer / aquaphobe to being confident moving around in the water.
(widths, shallow water)
- Enter the water unaided in a safe manner
- Move forwards for 8m using a front crawl or breaststroke leg action using a float
- Move backwards for 8m using a back crawl leg action using a float
- Put face into the water and blow bubbles
- Push and glide on front
- Push and glide on back (arms by side)
- Treading water action with legs (with floatation)
- Float on back for 5 seconds regaining the feet
- Float on front for 5 seconds regaining the feet
- Demonstrate a front crawl and back crawl arm action
Adult Advanced Beginner
Having completed adult beginner the individual is moving confidently in the water. May still be using a float or noodle but the teacher is not required to assist them across, moving to starting to swim independently of any floatation, and being ready to move to lengths.
(widths, deeper water)
- Push and glide on front with transition into front crawl showing side breathing for 1-2 width
- Push and glide into breaststroke for 1 width
- Push and glide on back (arms extended) with transition into back crawl. For 1-2 widths
- Scull headfirst for 3m
- Identify and pick up an object from below the water’s surface
- Jump in unaided
- Swim 4m on front and rotate and swim 4m on back
- Show 3 different floats (star, mushroom, pencil)
- Demonstrate log roll from front to back and back to front
- Demonstrate tuck turn from back to front and front to back
- Tread water for 10 seconds
- Enter and exit pool safely
Adult Intermediate
Having completed adult advanced beginner, the individual will be confident swimming without aids and ready to start increasing the distance and skill level. This is the individuals first start into length swimming and understanding lane etiquette.
- Be able to swim 2 lengths front crawl or breaststroke with touch turn
- Be able to swim 2 lengths back crawl with touch turn
- Be able to demonstrate 10m of dolphin kick
- Demonstrate a forward roll
- Demonstrate a handstand
- Tread water for 30 seconds unaided
- Complete a sitting dive
- Be able to climb out (without stairs)
- Perform a headfirst and feet first surface dive
- Be rescued by a reach rescue and a throw rescue
- Headfirst sculling for 8m
- Feet first sculling for 3m
Adult advanced (pre pool2pier)
- Be able to swim 6+ lengths of front crawl without stopping with correct breathing
- Demonstrate a front crawl tumble turn
- Be able to swim 100m back crawl with turns
- Be able to swim 100m breaststroke with turns and correct timing
- Demonstrate a butterfly arm action
- Jump in and tread water for 1 minute
- Jump in and float on back for 30 seconds, swimming to the side and climbing out
- Demonstrate a standing dive
- Show an understanding of a straddle entry
- Perform a reach rescue
- Throw a buoyant aid
- Swim in t-shirt and shorts
- Headfirst sculling 1 length
- Feet first sculling 1 length
