This summer the Brighton Swimming Centre along with the RNLI and Swim England are teaching hundreds of 7-14 year olds to have fun and stay safe in the sea as part of the “Swim Safe“ campaign. Specially trained Brighton Swimming Centre Staff are introducing small groups of children to swimming safely in the sea, teaching them how to enter the water safely, where it is safe to swim, why currents and tides are important and how to call help if needed. Altogether 350 children have been taught this summer. Classes have taken place at Madeira Drive and Hove Lawns in Brighton. Jade Cohen – Manager of the Brighton Swimming Centre said ‘its always been a priority for us to engage young people with the sea and this has been a perfect opportunity. The lessons are free, fun and have proven to be very popular across the city”. We very much hope to offer this again next summer.’ One mother - Erika Greig added ‘the children had such a brilliant time , we all learnt a lot – Its been an amazing opportunity!’ |
