The Programme
Due to the continued popularity of our Pool to Pier programme it will now be operating all year round from September 2010, split into six, six week terms.
The first three terms will be pool based training sessions aimed at stroke development and stamina to prepare a solid base for sea swimming.
The second three terms will start in the pool progressing into the sea as soon as the weather allows, which is typically in May. These sessions will be specifically sea orientated and include theory training.
Autumn Term 1: Developing Technique (pool based)
Aims:
- Stroke analysis and feedback
- Development of stroke techniques
- Introduction to key drills and practices

Autumn Term 2: Refining Technique
(pool based)
Aims:
- Continue to build on existing stroke techniques
- Implementing advanced drills and practices
- Combining technique and stamina
Winter Term 1: Maintaining Technique (pool based)
Aims:
- Developing and building on physical conditioning
- Sustaining technique
- Complete and improve on distance swims of up to 800 metres and beyond
Winter Term 2: Introducing Sea Specifics (pool based)
Aims:
- Developing your swimming techniques for varying sea conditions
- Maintaining your stamina
- Understanding essential sea swimming knowledge such as Tides and Currents, What to Wear and Beach Safety.

Spring Term 1: Progressing into the Sea (pool and sea based)
Aims:
- Developing awareness of local marine life and environmental concerns
- Ensuring everybody is 'Sea Fit'
- Complete first open water sea swims over distances of 200 to 400 metres
Spring Term 2: In the Sea (weather permitting)
Aims:
- Use Tides and Currents to your advantage
- Develop swimming distances from 200 to 1000 metres
- Achieve your course goal!
